Design science
Design science is a specific research approach within IS. It has grown into the center of the information systems (IS) discourse. The main message from ADT is that the object of design cannot be restricted to the IT artefact; neither to “context” design, since, according to ADT, there is no “context” object - only contextualization, an ever ongoing process. Design needs to include the dialectical interaction between the user and the IT artefact, and the fitting together of individual lines of actions into joint action. This means that design issues like meaning construction will be in focus. A main question is how to design artefacts that promote efficient meaning construction. According to ADT this includes efficient models signifying the activity modalities and their interdependencies. The System Anatomy model (see system development) is an example of such a model.
